It's Raining!

War Cry Magazine

During a particularly trying time in my life, I stopped to examine the many things going wrong. How could my Heavenly Father allow these awful things to crowd my previously comfortable existence?

In exasperation I looked heavenward with my tear-streaked face and gasped, “When it rains, it pours and God, I’m getting all wet!”

Within my soul I felt His steady, comforting voice calmly say, “Yes, but just wet enough to slip and fall to your knees.”

Things suddenly seemed clearer now. No my problems didn’t miraculously disappear but I changed. My perception changed. Maybe it’s not so much what I go through as how I react to what I go through.

My tears flowed freely now. “Thank you, Lord,” I quietly prayed. “Thank you for allowing trials in my life to draw me closer to You.”

In retrospect I saw that I had allowed the busyness of life and my comfortable circumstances to lure me into complacency. God said in Revelations 3:15-16, “I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot; I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew thee out of my mouth.”

Thank you, God for the rough lesson about allowing my fervor for You and growth in You to wane. Thank you for bringing a rainstorm into my life.
