Life Without Mother

The Christian Journal Newspaper

Many struggle through each spring as they celebrate Mother’s Day without their mothers. Here are some favorite words, filled with love and hope, spoken by the late Mother Teresa (1910-1997):

  • Intense love does not measure; it just gives.

  • Little things are indeed little, but to be faithful in little things is a great thing.

  • Give until it hurts.

  • The world today is hungry not only for bread but hungry for love; hungry to be wanted, to be loved.

  • Before you speak, it is necessary for you to listen, for God speaks in the silence of the heart.

  • We have been created to love and to be loved.

  • If you are humble nothing will touch you, neither praise nor disgrace, because you know what you are.

  • Do not allow yourself to be disheartened by any failure as long as you have done your best.

  • If we really want to love we must learn how to forgive.

  • If we pray, we will believe;
    If we believe, we will love;
    If we love, we will serve.

  • We can do no great things; only small things with great love.

Giving to others and focusing on their needs always helps us forget our own problems. Let’s find an outlet for our love today – we can help out with activities and groups at church; lead a Scout troop; volunteer at the hospital or a nursing home; help at the YMCA; help at the Humane Society, offer to baby-sit for someone; or help our neighbor in the yard. If we put our minds to it, we’ll find a way to help others doing the things we love. For example, we can teach line dancing at the senior center or host parties for the Salvation Army or our local women’s shelter. There are countless avenues for us to explore because everyone needs help! We’ll feel better when we do!
